HR and recruitment advisor
Claire joined Daviot as the firm was expanding and required a dedicated in-house HR department. She had a BA (Hons) degree in Marketing and HR from the University of Strathclyde but jumped at the chance to get a further qualification. Now, she is a HR & Recruitment Advisor and studying her post-graduate diploma in Human Resources with the University of Highlands and Islands.
“I knew this was a great opportunity for me. The course involves using hands on, practical day-to-day skills. It means I can apply the knowledge I’ve gained in a real way. The apprenticeships available have boosted the confidence and morale of the staff, supporting people with time off for study and to go into College or University. They have the belief that makes you feel valued and part of the team.” – Claire
Trainee Quantity Surveyor
Cameron is a trainee quantity surveyor with Daviot and is about to start studying for a BSC in Quantity Surveying at Glasgow Caledonian University.
“Studying and actually getting to work in the field I’m interested works really well. I knew I was applying to Daviot to be a trainee and was delighted to get accepted. I get to go out and shadow a quantity surveyor on-site and that real-life experience is invaluable. Being able to work, study and earn at the same time is great.” - Cameron
Lewis has an HNC in Quantity Surveying and joined Daviot as a trainee quantity surveyor just before he finished his course. Now, he is studying a BSC with the Glasgow Caledonian University through the Daviot Group. He travels down to the central belt once a week for lectures and spends the rest of his time at the firm’s headquarters in Inverness.
“As I was finishing my HNC, I wanted to find work with a company that would support me to further my qualifications so was pleased when I found Daviot. I’m not really a classroom learner so being able to work, get paid, learn on the job and have some time away at the University in Glasgow is a really good compromise. I’ve learned so much more from working in this way than I have just sitting in a lecture hall at university.” – Lewis
Megan joined the Daviot Group as a temporary administrator in January and was offered the chance to study for her SVQ3 in Business and Administration whilst becoming a permanent member of the team. She is studying with YouTrain, a premier provider of IT apprenticeships.
“It’s a great way to learn and further myself with another qualification. I was delighted to be offered to chance to become a permanent member of staff, work towards a qualification and get paid at the same time. It’s great to put what I’m learning into practice. It’s a lot easier combining study with learning on the job. Both Daviot and my trainer with You Train are really supportive.” – Megan
